RAEWYN TURNER

I'm exploring the inner and outer worlds through the senses, synaesthesia, colour and particularly olfaction to find the meaning of materiality in the sensory experience.

I've worked with olfaction since 1999 exploring both the fragrance of humans and the perception of fragrance. I'm interested in the intertwining of human and technological senses and in the effect of layers of interpreted data which have become associated with new forms of sense-making.

Raewyn Turner is an interdisciplinary visual artist concerned with cross-sensory perception and the uncharted territories of the senses.

Raewyn Turner creates olfactory art, video, interactive installations, performances and painting, sometimes working in collaboration with artists, musicians and scientists.

Her works have been shown in numerous national and international exhibitions presentations and performances, including Smells Like Roses, Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom 2023, Sensoria LAZNIA, Poland and Canada 2022, Performance Arcade Wellington 2022, Sculpture in the Gardens 2021, Spectra Art and Science symposium Australia 2019, Inaugural International Limestone Coast Video Art Festival, Mount Gambier, Australia 2019, The Big Anxiety Festival, Australia 2017, What Taste is the Colour Blue LA 2017, 1st Synesthesia Art Exhibition and Forum in China -Beijing, Xu Zhou, Hang Zhou and Guang Zhou 2016, Periodic Table Italy 2016, Intimate Technologies, the Field, Brighton UK 2016, Teknesyn 2015, ISEA 2015, 2013, Congreso International de Sinestesia, Ciencia Y Arte 2015. 2012, 2009, Museum of Contemporary Art MOMA Los Angeles, Parque de las Ciencias Granada Spain, 11th Prague Quadrennial of Scenography and Theatre Architecture 2007, Argentina, Georges Pompidou Center, Te Papa Museum, and Academy of Fine Arts NZ. She designed Four Senses Multisensory Concerts for the Deaf in 1999 and 2002 and was the Lighting and Set Designer for Split Enz 1975–1983.
