Pick Up Styx
Olfactory interactive performance - 2008
Pick Up Styx is an intimate performance work that invites the audience to participate in a dialogue enquiring into the cyphers of various perfume that have been designed for love and happiness from 2001 to 2008, the time of the 'War on Terror'.
The sticks were individually scented with selection of celebrity perfumes which had been created during the period 2001-2008. The pick up sticks tabletop game is played by two or more people who engage in a dialogue while playing. The work is about understanding the meaning encapsulated in olfactory information signals created for love and transmitted by our perfumed and deodorised bodies.
Could we better understand our times if we could navigate the past 8 years by smell?
Pick Up Styx for One was a series of interactive performances for an audience of one person, 2010. I used a celebrity perfume Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds launched during the era of 'The War on Terror' 2001--2008. My head movements controlled the bird and the explosions.
